Championships Press staff recruitment

We are recruiting four temporary Press Stewards, one temporary Press Assistant and one Senior Press Assistant to work in the media centre during The Championships 2013.  This is a busy area with over 750 journalists from all over the world working at the event.  The minimum dates required for availability are 22nd June to 7th July inclusive, although there may be opportunities to commence work as early as 17th June in certain cases.

On your CV you must include full contact details and at least one referee, preferably two, from your last place of employment or study.  The Closing Date for applications is 18th FEBRUARY 2013.

Please be aware that long working hours are often necessary throughout the period of The Championships and occasionally a late shift may finish at 11-12pm.

You are advised that information and documentation provided as part of your application for temporary employment at The Championships may be shared with the Police, the UK Home Office and other law enforcement agencies in order to protect the security of those working and/or visiting The Championships.

Job descriptions

Senior Press Assistant

  1. Oversee Press Assistants/Press Stewards as necessary and assist Deputy Press Operations Manager with devising and implementing a staff rota
  2. Oversee press seating on all courts with priority to show courts
  3. Oversee and maintain information flow from press conferences, referees office, weather forecasts etc
  4. Deal with media requests as required, oversee/assist in issuing of accreditations, press packs, guest passes, lockers and keys, temporary access passes
  5. Oversee staffing of press conferences by Press Assistants
  6. Update information screens in press areas
  7. Assist and update Press Operations Manager as required

Press Assistant

  1. Assisting with enquiries from journalists and helping them with any issues relating to their working area/environment
  2. Assisting with the main accreditation distribution to the Press
  3. Distribution of interview transcripts and scorecards throughout the media centre
  4. Assisting with the distribution of lockers/keys and bags to the media
  5. Collation and distribution of press cuttings

Press Steward

  1. Collection and recording of all match results for media areas
  2. Keeping tally of all matches on the daily order of play, systematically confirming all scores with the Referee’s office throughout the day
  3. Posting of all scores and duration of matches on boards around media centre
  4. Collection and delivery of all scorecards from Referee’s office

Experience/Skills required for all positions

  • Have an understanding of tennis
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills (fluency in English is required)
  • Have good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Be a good team worker and be able to fit into a small team
  • Have neat handwriting (for the Press Stewards posts)
  • Have an interest in journalism/media
  • Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure during busy periods
  • Be of good general/tidy appearance and punctual

Experience/Skills desired for all positions

  • Be able to speak more than one language (relevant to visiting journalists)
  • Have some previous office experience of working in a press office and/or dealing directly with customers
  • Understanding of tennis scoring (for Press Stewards)
  • Have the ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with queries under pressure, both in person and on the phone (for Press Assistants)

Additional Experience/Skills for Senior Press Assistant

Required:         

  • Experience of sports events, preferably in a press officer capacity
  • Ability to work under pressure independently and within a team
  • Communication and organisation skills

Highly Desirable:           

  • Be able to speak more than one language (relevant to visiting journalists )
  • Knowledge/experience of tennis
  • Experience of team management
