Temporary painters and decorators
We need to recruit temporary Painters and Decorators to join our Maintenance Department from early March.
Applicants should have a proven track record in commercial maintenance painting. Duties include: stripping and sanding surfaces, filling holes, cutting in, cross lining and gloss and emulsion paintwork. The work will involve external and internal decorating and working at heights.
Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, with an hour for lunch. Some weekend overtime is usually available from May and it is anticipated that the contract will continue until 23 June.

JOB TITLE: Temporary Maintenance Painter & Decorator
PURPOSE OF JOB: To carry out painting and decorating of premises/areas at the Company site.
REPORTS TO: Buildings & Services Manager through the Deputy Buildings & Services Manager and Clerk of Works. On a day-to-day basis reports to the Foreman Painter and Decorator.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- All painting and decorating to professional standards, as required by the Buildings and Services Manager, Deputy Buildings and Services Manager and the Clerk of Works.
- Duties include matching existing decorations and colours and the correct preparation of surfaces and substrates to receive various applied finishes.
- Stencilling, numbering, lettering and line marking.
- Able to work safely at heights using the correct access equipment.
- To carry out any other duties within the scope of the post as may be required by the Buildings & Services Manager, Deputy Buildings & Services Manager and Clerk of Works.
OTHER DUTIES
- Assist with general maintenance work as required by the Buildings & Services Manager, Deputy Building & Services Manager and Clerk of Works.
- Comply with Health and Safety requirements and departmental procedures.
INTERNAL COLLABORATION
- Other members of the Maintenance team and staff.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
To hold:
- City & Guilds Advanced Craft or NVQ in Painting & Decorating. (D)
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE/ACHIEVEMENTS
- Worked successfully as a fully qualified painter and decorator for an organisation. (E)
- Previous experience working in large commercial or industrial sites. (E)
ABILITIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
- Good communication skills in English – verbal for liaison with other staff and suppliers, reading and writing for checking deliveries and reading instructions etc. (E)
- Self motivated with evidence of working on own initiative; pro-active flexible approach to work and able to cope with changing priorities. (E)
- Able to work effectively as part of a team, or individually, when required on a range of maintenance duties. (E)
- Must be able to use mobile platforms and ladders safely to access restricted areas of the site. (E)
- Must be capable of manual handling to a maximum limit of 25 kg and of walking distances carrying tool bag. (E)
