Maintenance Construction Operative

The All England Lawn Tennis Club, the home of The Championships, Wimbledon needs to recruit a Maintenance Construction Operative.

Responsibilities include general maintenance of the facilities with particular emphasis on construction skills based works.  Proven knowledge and experience in paving, concreting, drain laying and general construction are essential.  Some bricklaying experience would be desirable. 

The year round basic hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with an hour for lunch, although flexibility is required to meet the demands of the job, including working overtime when needed and participating in the weekend duty rota.  During the Championships fortnight (last week in June and first week in July), the job holder must be able to work weekends and minimum 12-hour days.

Job description

JOB TITLE:                           Maintenance Construction Operative

PURPOSE OF JOB:               To assist in the general maintenance of the AELTC facilities with particular emphasis on construction skills based works; to assist in other duties as required.

REPORTS TO:                       The Buildings & Services Manager through the Deputy Buildings & Services Manager and Clerk of Works.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Maintenance of walls and floors as required, including finishes other than painting.
  • Small concreting works projects including shuttering, simple reinforcement and mixing and placing of the concrete as required.
  • Maintenance of, and laying of, drainage systems.
  • Maintenance of, and laying of, various pavements in blocks, slabs, concrete and tarmac including all sub base preparation etc.
  • Provide support to other tradesmen as required.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Any other duties within the scope of the post as may be required by the Buildings & Services Manager, his Deputy or the Clerk of Works.
  • Normally these additional duties will include driving, assistance in maintaining the site in a clean and accessible condition, assistance in off loading materials delivered to the site and assistance to others in regards of porterage and similar duties.
  • Flexibility is required to undertake any other maintenance duties which may be required within the department.

  • Fork lift licence preferred but if not must be willing to undertake necessary training
