Secondary and Further Education Programme

Our Secondary Education Programme (PDF) is flexible in order to meet the needs of all groups. The individual packages can be adapted from an introductory talk to a more detailed analysis of each subject; lecturers can tailor their visits in advance. 

The Education Department has a wealth of experience of working with EFL groups. All our tours are in English and are designed to be entertaining and enlightening for all.

Tennis and Technology

From a garden pursuit to the power game we recognise today, discover just how much technology has shaped the modern game of tennis.

With the aid of our collection of vintage clothing, rackets, strings and tennis balls, students will discover how the constant re-designing and refining of these simple things continues to push the sport forward.

Amongst their armoury tennis players need an explosive first step, the energy to sprint a kilometre every hour, and the flexibility to change direction every 1.1 seconds. During the workshop students will discover just what it takes to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s tennis elite.

Behind the Scenes Tour *

From humble beginnings to the world’s most coveted title in tennis, let our Education Team guide you through the stories that make a visit to Wimbledon such an unforgettable experience. The tour explores the story behind the first Championships and visits No. 1 Court, the Picnic Terraces (the famous hill), the Millennium Building including the press areas and the iconic Centre Court.

Is a lawn tennis tournament as green as it looks? 

Students will be given a guided tour of the facilities, both old and new, used for the two weeks of the Wimbledon Championships. Using information on the scale and impact of a major sporting event, students are encouraged to identify bias, analyse source material and evaluate the evidence gained.

Marketing an Attraction

With the unique relationship between The Club and The Championships so integral to the Museum, students will discover the constraints and opportunities this presents in promoting a year round attraction. During the discussion, students will have the opportunity to evaluate current marketing materials produced by the Museum.

How does Wimbledon maintain its position as the world’s premier tennis event?

During the visit students will discover how a careful balance of tradition, routine and innovation has enabled tennis to flourish at Wimbledon and The Championships to become the envy of the tennis world.

Booking a Visit

Visits can be made Monday to Friday 10:00 – 16:00 up until the May Half Term.

It is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.

The number of students we can accommodate in a day will vary depending on the activities booked. 

Prices and Payment

- A guided tour of the grounds costs: £70 + £2 per student

- All Packages cost: £140 + £2 per student

- These prices do not include VAT

- There is a minimum charge of 15 students

- All prices are valid until 31st August 2013

All tours and workshops include a complimentary, self-guided visit, to the Museum.
