The AELTC groundstaff won the 2012 Team of the Year award at the annual Turf Pro awards last month.
The award, which was collected by Head Groundsman Neil Stubley, paid fitting tribute to one of the most challenging summers the groundstaff have taken on, as, following a very wet and disrupted Championships, the team had just three weeks to renovate the Championship courts for the Olympic tennis event.
"It’s nice to be recognised for all the hard work and long hours that have been put in by the team, especially with the challenges of the weather in the build up and during The Championships, but to then get the courts ready again 20 days later for the London 2012 Olympic tennis," Stubley said.
"It’s the first award in my 18 years here that I know of that has been awarded to us."
Turf Pro, which sponsors the awards, is an industry magazine.
20:08It brings me no pleasure but it's time to bring the curtain down for another year. Seemed somehow appropriate to leave the last word to Roger Federer. Thanks a billion for reading. What a fortnight, what a final, fast forward to 2015 please...
