Live Blog : Thursday 21 June 2012
17:32There we have it. Our lucky qualifiers will find out their fate when the draw is made at 1000 BST tomorrow. You can listen to all the drama live on Live@Wimbledon radio. I will see you on Monday when WIMBLEDON 2012 BEGINS. Worthy of the capitals we reckon...
17:26That's it! We have our complete set of singles qualifiers. Bad news for Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino fans, but good news for headline writers, scoreboards, live-bloggers etc etc as American Coco Vandeweghe comes back to win 6-2, 7-6 (2), 7-5.
17:20No such nerves from Kristina Mladenovic who holds easily to complete a mighty impressive 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over fourth seed Misaki Doi. The 19-year-old Swiss-born Frenchwoman will make her Wimbledon debut next week.
17:15Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino - L.A.V. if you must - serves for the chance to make her debut at Wimbledon - and is broken back by Coco Vandeweghe. It's 5-5 in the third, and it's TENSE.
17:10Another match point for Sandra Zaniewska, this time on Sesil Karatantcheva's serve, and she takes it to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Not enough Sandras in Grand Slams these days if you ask me. Not many Sesils either, mind you. Two other players are a game from victory so hold on tight...
17:04Sandra Zaniewska is serving for it against Sesil Karatantcheva... But after saving three break points and wasting a match point, the Pole is broken and we're back on serve in the third, Zaniewska leading 5-4.
16:55Maria Elena Camerin didn't want to hang around in this showery weather any longer. She comes back out after the rain delay and wins the one game she needs to complete a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win over 13th seed Claire Aurelle Feuerstein. Just three places remain now...
16:07Since it's just gone 4 p.m., it seems the perfect time for a cuppa and we'll be back just as soon as there's any sign of balls being hit.
16:04Tweet from @MarcRibolla: Cool, finally the Pliskova twins both got their spot in a GS single draw in @Wimbledon! #Tennis
15:55Ah. Still four matches going - but they're heading for cover at the moment because the rain is coming down again.
15:46"Lucic let out a huge scream of jubilation after she won. Slightly happy."
15:25Yep me too Nate (see below). I keep missing the entry deadline... Not true of 1999 Wimbledon semi-finalist Mirjana Lucic though. She's a 7-5, 6-4 winner over the brilliantly-named Bibiane Schoofs. Lucic played Wimbledon for the first time in 10 years in 2010 after a long spell in the wilderness. She's still looking for her first main draw win since 2000.
15:23Tweet from @nate_rector: well, this is just another year I didn't qualify for Wimbledon. look out 2013.
15:21Camila Giorgi will have something to put on her personal website tonight after she beats Alexa Glatch of the U.S. 7-6 (5), 6-2.
15:17Vesna Dolonc has never won a match at Wimbledon but she'll have a chance to put that right after beating 15th seed Valeria Savinykh 6-2, 6-2. Some of these players are really in a hurry to miss the rain. Annika Beck is next through. Six places in the main draw taken, six still up for grabs.
15:01Kristyna Pliskova joins twin sister Karolina in the main draw with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Irena Pavlovic. Other sisters in the main draw: the Williams and the Radwanskas. Can't think of any others, but I'm sure you'll tell me. Jana Cepelova is also through, ending the hopes of Ekaterina Bychkova.
14:53Scrap that, Karolina Pliskova beat them both to it. She sees off Yurika Sema 6-4, 6-1 to become the first qualifier for the women's singles. Melinda Czink isn't far behind though, finishing off a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marta Sirotnika.
14:51It's a race between Melinda Czink and Kristyna Pliskova to see who can qualify first. Looks like Czink will do it - she leads 5-1 in the second.
14:45Ooh it was tight but Camila Giorgi of Italy has just sneaked the first set against Alexa Glatch 7-5 on the tiebreak. Glatch's fellow American Coco Vandeweghe is faring a little better. She's up a set but down 3-0 in the second against Lara Arruabarrena-Vecin. I was going to use Lara's initials for speed purposes but I've just realised that wouldn't be such a great idea...
14:35Fourth seed Misaki Doi has returned in determined mood. The Japanese player breaks at the first attempt to take the first set against Kristina Mladenovic, the former junior No. 1 looking to make her Wimbledon debut.
14:29I hesitate to call it sunny - mainly because it isn't - but the players are heading back out again ready to resume.
13:33Still no play to report folks. But I do have this from intrepid (and wet) reporter Dan Imhoffs: "After a brief halt for a few spots of rain, play continued. Tough ask for Mirjana Lucic wearing glasses in this weather. The Croatian managed to hold serve for 4-5 only for a heavier shower to force the covers on. Play suspended."
12:51Bah. That wet stuff is coming down again and the covers are coming on...
12:46Karolina, who has never played Wimbledon before, is a set up against Yurika Sema. Kristyna, who qualified last year, is still grinding it out in the first set against Irena Pavlovic.
12:40Top seed Melinda Czink has the first set in the bag already - 6-3 against Marta Sirotnika. The 29-year-old Hungarian is aiming to compete in a ninth straight Wimbledon.
12:32Plenty going on around the grounds at Wimbledon today. They're virtually queuing to get onto the practice courts at Aorangi Park, and Andy Murray was in the interview room earlier as he and brother Jamie were officially picked for Team GB at the Olympics.
12:27Feel free to get in touch by the way. I'm hungry for interaction. And/or biscuits. Hashtag #Wimbledon, tweet me directly @carolinecheese.
12:14Yesterday, the United States celebrated four of their men coming through qualifying. Today they have two women in action. Coco Vandeweghe is up against Lara Arruabarrena-Vecin in an exotic names play-off. Alexa Glatch faces Camila Giorgi of Italy.
12:02We're under way at the Bank of England Sports Ground. Once again we have the Pliskova sisters in action. Kristyna faces Irena Pavlovic of France, while Karolina is up against Yurika Sema.
11:57Players are warming up. After we discovered the identity of our 16 men's qualifiers yesterday, today is the turn of the women and we have 12 spots in the main draw up for grabs.
11:30The news is that the sun is out. Players will be heading out at 1155 BST for an extended warm-up before play gets under way.
10:50Read an article this morning saying we should celebrate the rain - so HURRAH! It's raining, so the start of the final day qualifying has been delayed until at least 1200 BST. I'll be back just as soon as play gets under way.
