Biography

Stanislas Wawrinka began playing tennis at the age of eight and stopped attending school, aged 15, in order to play tennis full time and concentrate on junior events. Despite being in the shadow of his Swiss compatriot, Roger Federer, Wawrinka is a consistent force in and around the world's top ten and known for his dangerous backhand, as well as his serve and volley game. He has reached the quarter-finals of both the Australian Open and US Open, and claimed an Olympic Doubles gold medal with Federer in Beijing in 2008. He is coached by former French Open finalist, Magnus Norman.
