Biography

Kimiko Date-Krumm began playing tennis at the age of six and was a champion at Sonada High School, graduating in 1989. Five years later she achieved her highest career WTA ranking of number eight in the world, and later reached the semi-finals in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Interestingly, Date-Krumm, who is now 42, retired from tennis in 1996 before announcing her comeback to the WTA Tour 12 years later. After claiming her eighth WTA Tour title in in 2009 at the Hansol Korea Open in Seoul, she became the oldest player, after Billie Jean King, to win a singles title on the women's tour.
