Biography

Kimiko Date-Krumm began playing tennis at the age of six and was a champion at Sonada High School, graduating in 1989. Five years later she achieved her highest career WTA ranking of number eight in the world, and later reached the semi-finals in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Interestingly, Date-Krumm, who is now 42, retired from tennis in 1996 before announcing her comeback to the WTA Tour 12 years later. After claiming her eighth WTA Tour title in in 2009 at the Hansol Korea Open in Seoul, she became the oldest player, after Billie Jean King, to win a singles title on the women's tour.

Thank you for all your messages throughout, you've been the glue holding us together as the edges frayed amid the madness. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for us Brits to raise a toast to Andy Murray and Fred Perry. British sporting legends both.

20:19It was the wackiest of Wimbledons with the most unlikely of headline-makers: Sergiy Stakhovsky, Steve Darcis, Michelle Larcher de Brito, Kimiko-Date Krumm, Jerzy Janowicz, Sabine Lisicki, Marion Bartoli...
