Croatia Calling

The award winning Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and Tour continues to deliver an outstanding experience to visitors. The latest on offer at the Museum is the introduction of the Croatian language to the already extensive array of audio guide languages provided because of the growing number of visitors to the Museum from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro.

This exciting addition to the selection of languages sees Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum as the first Museum in the country to provide a Croatian audio guide, and brings the total of languages available to nine. The eight other languages include; English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian and Mandarin. Furthermore, the guides are not only in local languages but also identify with the relevant local exhibits on display in the Museum.

The introduction of the language lends itself to the exciting central European talent in the tennis world, with 15% of top men’s singles matches played by Serbian and Croatian players. The language will also be incorporated into the CentreCourt360 touchscreens, a recent addition to the Museum which allows guests to enjoy a 360 degree view of Centre Court within a new viewing pod and two interactive rooms, providing an up close view of the court form the eyes of the spectator.

The Croatian focus doesn’t stop there however. The 21st Century exhibition at Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum contains a permanent display of items belonging to Championship winner Goran Ivanisevic.

Visitors may view the racquet belonging to the tennis star, complete with elastic bands attached to minimise vibrations which Ivanisevic used to economise during tougher times! Also showcased, is the shirt worn during his winning match which is currently on loan from a spectator who caught the shirt at the end of the game. Further to this, tennis fans can look forward to the upcoming addition of a dress donated by Jelena Jankovich of Serbia in 2007 to the Ladies’ Dressing Room showcase.
