Berdych secures last-four berth |

Saturday, 29 September, 2007 Tomas Berdych advanced to the semi-finals of the Thailand Open with a 7-5 6-4 victory over seventh seed Ivo Karlovic on Friday. The third-seeded Czech, who is ranked 10th in the world, was facing the 6ft 9in Croatian for the first time in the only quarter-final featuring two seeded players. Berdych will next meet unseeded Benjamin Becker, who defeated fellow German Dominik Meffert 7-6 (7/2) 7-5. The 26-year-old, who upset fifth seed Carlos Moya in the first round, smashed 13 aces and saved six of eight break points against Meffert. It will be Becker's third appearance in a semi-final this season after reaching the last four at both San Jose and Delray Beach. In the bottom half of the draw, sixth seed Dmitry Tursunov avoided an upset against Taipei native Yeu-Tzuoo Wang on Friday. After losing the first set, the Russian hit back to post a 4-6 6-2 6-4 result. Tursunov, who dispatched Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-4 6-4 on Thursday, will meet eighth seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the semi-finals. Verdasco also dropped the first set before defeating Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 4-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-4. PA Sport
