Thursday, 13 September, 2007 Marc Gicquel upset fifth-seeded Russian Igor Andreev 6-4 6-3 in the second round of the BCR Open on Wednesday. With the win, the unseeded Frenchman avenged a three-set loss to Andreev on the hard courts of Dubai in February. Reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since Gstaad in July, Gicquel next will face countryman Gael Monfils. Prior to Wednesday, Andreev had reached at least the quarters in four of his previous five clay court events he had entered, including the French Open. A qualifier, Monfils took advantage of three breaks to dispatch Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina in 90 minutes 6-4 6-4. Monfils, who was a runner-up in Portschach in May, upset second seed Filippo Volandri in straight sets on Tuesday. Sixth-seeded Gilles Simon also moved out of the second round with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Evgeny Korolev of Russia. The French player next will face Hugo Armando, who routed Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-0 6-3. PA Sport
