Top seed Chakvetadze progressed to the last eight with a 6-1 7-6 (7/2) win over American Meilen Tu. Fourth seed Hantuchova, meanwhile, overcame Czech qualifier Zuzana Ondraskova 6-4 6-1 at the Luxembourg event. World number 10 Hantuchova has reached the semi-finals in her last two tournaments, including a runner-up showing at Bali earlier this month. Before a possible meeting with Hantuchova, Chakvetadze will face fifth seed Marion Bartoli in the quarter-finals after the Frenchwoman defeated Sybille Bammer of Austria 6-2 7-5. The 22-year-old has never played Chakvetadze before. Hantuchova will have to deal with sixth seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, who was a 5-7 6-1 6-2 winner over Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. The Slovakian has won four of the last five meetings between the two players and eight of 15 overall. In Thursday's only other second-round match, eighth seed Tatiana Golovin of France had very little trouble with Italian Francesca Schiavone on her way to a 6-3 6-1 success. It was the seventh straight win for 19-year-old Golovin, who collected her second title of the year at the Portoroz tournament last week. The next opponent for Golovin will be second seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. PA Sport
