Hot Rod into last eight

Friday, 29 February, 2008

Top seed Andy Roddick extended his winning streak to seven matches with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Mardy Fish at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.

World number six Roddick, the 2002 Memphis champion, will face Robert Soderling in quarter-finals.

"Physically I am feeling great and the next match is going to be huge," said Roddick. "He (Soderling) reached the final last week in Rotterdam and he's cruised through the first two rounds here."

Eighth seed Soderling overcame Victor Hanescu 6-2 6-1 in just 44 minutes.

Jonas Bjorkman, playing in his first ATP tournament of the season, advanced to the last eight with a 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7/4) victory over 20-year-old Sam Querrey.

Bjorkman will next face American Donald Young, who secured a 6-1 1-6 6-3 victory over Colombian Alejandro Falla.

Australian Chris Guccione fired down 15 aces as he inflicted a 6-3 6-4 defeat on sixth seed Thomas Johansson, and will next face fourth seed Radek Stepanek.

In the other quarter-final, Benjamin Becker will take on Steve Darcis.
