Davenport too strong for Wozniacki

Friday, 29 February, 2008

Fourth seed Lindsay Davenport breezed into the semi-finals of the Cellular South Cup with a quickfire 6-0 6-2 victory over former Wimbledon junior champion Caroline Wozniacki.

Davenport, playing in her first American tournament since the 2006 US Open, dominated throughout and never faced a break point.

"I'm playing pretty well this week - I like playing indoors," said Davenport. "Hopefully I can keep it going."

Davenport will face Marina Erakovic in the last four after the qualifier came from behind to record a 4-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Alla Kudryavtseva.

Last year's beaten finalist and third seed, Shahar Peer, fought back to record a 3-6 6-1 6-3 win over seventh seed Sofia Arvidsson.

The Israeli saved four break points while serving for the match.

"It was a really, really tough match - I kept fighting and fighting to the end," said Peer.

"I hope I can keep that level up for the rest of the tournament."

Peer will face fifth seed Olga Govortsova, who claimed a 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 triumph against German wild card Julia Goerges, for a place in the final.
