Top seed David Nalbandian secured his place in the semi-finals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel event in Acapulco with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Potito Starace of Italy.

World number eight Nalbandian, who won in Buenos Aires last week, will face Peru's Luis Horna - a 6-4 3-6 6-3 winner against 2003 champion Agustin Calleri - in the last four.

In the bottom half of the draw, sixth seed Nicolas Almagro overcame Chile's Nicolas Massu 4-6 6-3 6-3 and will take on Jose Acasuso, who overcame Spanish qualifier Marcel Granollers-Pujol 7-6 (7/2) 6-3.
