Keothavong through in Morocco

Wednesday, 29 April, 2009

British number one Anne Keothavong battled through to the second round of the WTA Grand Prix in Morocco.

Keothavong raced through the opening set of her match with Estonia's Maret Ani, winning it 6-2 in just 28 minutes.

But the world number 54 was forced to recover from 5-2 down in an epic second set, which lasted one hour and 16 minutes, before sealing victory in a tie-break.

Ani looked set to force a decider when she led 4-1 and 5-2, but lost her serve twice to allow Keothavong back into the match.

It was still not straightforward for the 25-year-old, who had to recover from 3-0 down in the tie-break to win the next seven points in a row and seal her place in the last 16.
