Venus Williams in numbers

On a different planet

With Venus Williams playing her 21st Wimbledon, and hoping to become the oldest women's champion of all time at the All England Club, here is her SW19 story in numbers.

Williams will make her 21st appearance having played at more Championships than any other active player. Since her first visit in 1997, when she was 17 years old, she has missed The Championships only once - she was absent in 2013 because of a back injury.

The points that Williams has played in her singles career to date at Wimbledon. Of those, she won 7,521 and lost 6,102, giving her a winning percentage of 55.

At the age of 38, Williams would become the oldest Wimbledon champion of all time if she were to win the title this summer. Britain's Charlotte Cooper Sterry, who was 37 years old when she landed the 1908 title, is the oldest champion in history, while Serena Williams is the oldest ladies' singles champion of modern times: she was 34 in 2016.

Last summer, at the age of 37, Williams became the oldest woman to feature in a Grand Slam final since a 37-year-old Navratilova was the runner-up at Wimbledon in 1994.

Williams has won the ladies' singles title five times, lifting the Venus Rosewater Dish in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008 (there was a time when it was said that the trophy was named after her).

Williams has played in nine Wimbledon finals, and only once has she lost to someone outside her family. Williams was beaten by her younger sister Serena in 2002, 2003 and 2009, and last summer by Garbiñe Muguruza.
