Record prize money for players, on-court refillable water, milestone anniversaries to celebrate, exciting new spectator experiences, smashing new gaming fun, and much, much more. Welcome to the 136th staging of The Championships.
More tickets
With the Grounds capacity at 42,000 each day, the public ballot returned for the first time since 2019 and received an unprecedented number of applications, with renewed levels of interest from the USA, Ireland, Italy and Germany. Keith Prowse sold all their official hospitality packages by the start of April – the earliest they’ve done so on record.
Around the Grounds
The Southern Village, the section of the Grounds running between No.2 Court and the Rosewater Pavilion, now boasts a new big screen showing live tennis, with deck chairs and weather shade, improved food and drink facilities and a new entry gate to ease the flow of spectators into the Grounds.
Elsewhere, an alternative to arranging a rendezvous by the Fred Perry statue comes in the stunning form of the Serving Ace Meeting Tree, a sculpture created by artist Mark Reed and inspired by the movement of a 6ft 2in (1.88m) serving player. Weighing 1.4 tonnes, the tree has more than 1,900 marine-grade stainless steel beech leaves, patinated with colours ranging from copper, bronze, pinks to purples, and took 6,000 hours to produce and assemble.
The Hill in New York
The Hill in New York returns this year with a live screening activation at Brooklyn Bridge Park taking place on the final three days of the Championships (14-16 July). The Hill in New York is supported by ESPN and many of Wimbledon’s Official Partners.
Tickets are free and available via a ballot. Enter by Thursday 6 July, 12pm EST. For more information, please visit wimbledon.com/thehillinnewyork.
The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum
The Museum will once again be open, free of charge to ticketholders, during The Championships.
This year’s special exhibit is Michael Cole: Capturing the Moment. Cole attended Wimbledon as a photographer for more than 40 years, capturing close to half a million images during that time. The exhibit showcases his iconic imagery from 1969-1984.
Digital initiatives
Race to Wimbledon
Wimbledon has announced its entry to online gaming platform Fortnite, with the launch of Race to Wimbledon.
Players of Race to Wimbledon, which is presented in partnership with American Express, will run, drive, parkour and fly past London landmarks, including Big Ben and the London Eye, through Wimbledon village and past Andy Murray’s golden letterbox, navigating around larger-than-life obstacles such as giant strawberries and tennis rackets, to make it to Wimbledon’s Centre Court in the fastest time.
As well as on all the usual devices, Race to Wimbledon will be available to play on site throughout The Championships at the American Express Fan Experience in the Southern Village. As part of the experience, players are challenged to beat the time of American Express ambassador Andy Murray and post their performance on social media.
WimbleWorld
In 2022, the All England Club launched WimbleWorld on metaverse platform Roblox, receiving more than 12 million visits. With more than 80% of users aged under 24, WimbleWorld remains one of the most visited official sports experiences on Roblox.
Building on 2022’s success, new additions to excite players on WimbleWorld have been introduced. These include the Lawn of Champions, where players can try their hand at preparing the famous grass courts of SW19 by mowing and painting the lines on the courts. There is also a treasure hunt where players can earn a hawk to sit on the shoulder of their avatar across all Roblox experiences. Live scores will feature in the experience, in a first for Roblox.
Wimbledon Smash
New for 2023, Wimbledon has rebranded and updated its gamified tennis experience app, now known as Wimbledon Smash. In the Wimbledon Smash game, players control a racket to ‘serve’ a tennis ball and break as many bricks as possible, with rain, wind and surprise items affecting the game.
The app features a year-round ‘campaign’ mode, where players can train and progress through different levels. On Day 1, a Championships mode will be launched in line with the commencement of the Wimbledon Fortnight. Those who reach the top 10 on the leaderboard will be eligible to win prizes such as semi-final tickets for The Championships 2024 and a range of items from the Wimbledon Shop.
Tennis Clash
During The Championships, fans can also take part in Wimbledon season on Tennis Clash, the world’s most popular tennis mobile gaming app. Players will be dressed in special white match kit and be able to take to the famous grass of Centre Court. For further information and to take part, please go to wimbledon.com/gaming.
