The errors were piling up for Jabeur as Rybakina created a two-game cushion but the 27-year-old found an opening in the sixth game, finally recapturing her feathery touch to earn three break points with a drop shot winner that clipped the net, followed by a perfectly arced lob.

Rybakina was unfazed, though, sweeping through the next five points to hold and she took down the Jabeur serve one more time for an insurance second break.

Serving for the Championship, Rybakina extinguished yet another push from Jabeur to enter the history books with an unprecedented success for Kazakhstan.

“I want to congratulate Elena, she played amazing. Her and her team, great job, I mean she deserves this. Hopefully next time I’ll get it,” said Jabeur. “Elena stole my title, but it’s OK,” she added with a chuckle.
