We’re proud to have been a signatory to this framework since 2019 and in 2022 signed up to the framework’s ‘Race to Zero’ targets. We are continually working and evolving our plans to deliver against the framework’s five principles:
We incorporate climate action into our overall business strategy and ensure Board level scrutiny of plans and progress. Our emission target and environment positive strategy was approved by the AELTC Board in October 2019. The AELTC’s overall strategy includes a corporate purpose to be a force for good as well as an objective to have a positive impact.
We measure, quantify and report our carbon footprint; take steps to avoid and reduce emissions, for example through introducing electric vehicles, upgrading energy monitoring and metering systems and saving energy through ‘mothballing’ areas. We buy renewable electricity and generate a small amount on site through solar PV.
We share knowledge, expertise and best practice with partners and colleagues in order to amplify the impact of our efforts, for example through presentations and networking sessions. We communicate our aims during the Championships and at supplier forums each year.
We provide information and facilities for staff and visitors to enable them to make sustainable choices and we motivate and collaborate with suppliers in support of climate positive action, for example including sustainability criteria within procurements.
We promote awareness of climate change and environment through our media channels including our website and social media feeds and showcase sustainable actions throughout our Grounds. During The Championships we have a guest-facing ‘Environment Positive’ theme.
We will continue to build on this and look forward to continued collaboration with our colleagues in the UN Sport for Climate Action community.
